Visiting hours for patients are from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. We encourage you to check with the Nurses Station to make sure the patient is not with a physician or receiving treatment at the time you wish to visit.  You can reach the Nurses Station by calling 706-485-2711 Ext. 2082.

Medical/Surgical Unit

Our Medical/Surgical Unit admits pediatric and adult patients with diagnoses across medical specialties. The care rendered is necessary for only a short period of time in which a patient is treated for severe episodes of illness. Our goal is to assist patients in returning to their highest level of functioning. The licensed staff integrates their expert knowledge and technological advancements to ensure that you have an optimal environment for healing. Our nurses are trusted by patients and valued by colleagues as highly skilled and compassionate caregivers.

Intermediate Care Unit

The Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) provides nursing care for patients who are too ill for the general Medical/Surgical Unit yet do not need an intensive level of care for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Patient care services vary widely, depending on each individual's specific needs. Common services provided in the Intermediate Care Unit include:

Airway Management
Ventilator support for patients unable to breathe on their own
Insertion and maintenance of central IV lines and chest tubes
Critical care medications and IV infusions
Continuous cardiac monitoring

Our IMCU is a three-bed unit where patients with acute pulmonary, medical, surgical, and cardiac conditions receive treatment and excellent care by registered nurses certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. In addition, professionals from varied disciplines add support whenever needed in the area of nutrition, pharmacy, rehabilitation, and care coordination.

What is Swing Bed?

Putnam General Hospital, Navicent Health Partner has a Skilled Nursing Unit referred to as Swing Bed.  This 10-bed unit provides round the clock care for patients who are in transition between an acute care status and either their home or long-term care facility.  The unit admits Medicare eligible patients and private insurance patients with prior authorization. Prior to a patient's admission to the Swing Bed Unit, a pre-admission evaluation is made of the patient to determine admission criteria and predict length of stay.  The length of stay for each patient varies but the average is seven to fourteen days.  Members of nursing staff, physicians, case management, or family members can request in-house referrals.  Outside referrals are also welcomed from area hospitals or physicians. Types of patient that are candidates for Swing Bed are:

Patients with recent joint replacements or hip pinning.
Stroke patients who do not qualify for admission to a Rehab Center but could improve their level of functioning in a swing bed status.
