Therapy Services


Putnam General Hospital provides quality care close to home and seeks to serve our community with a variety of therapy services in our outpatient setting located on hospital campus. Our outpatient facility practices a comprehensive team approach to therapy; utilizing education for patient's and caregivers paired with physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech language pathology. Our concern is the welfare of the whole individual with emphasis on pain relief, rehabilitation, and active involvement of the patient with home exercise plans and long-term prevention programs. Typical diagnoses and/or treatments referred to Putnam General Hospital Therapy Services include, but are not limited to:

Orthopedic and musculoskeletal injuries

Post-operative conditions (shoulder, hips, and knees)

Neurological deficits from neurological disorders

Chronic pain

Generalized weakness

Fractures

Strains and sprains

Learning disorders

Modified barium swallows (all ages)

Our facility also offers a Swing Bed program, as well as Inpatient setting, which offers physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech language pathology in a private setting. The swing bed program is available for use when a patient no longer needs acute care but still needs skilled nursing care and rehabilitation. The goal of our swing bed program at Putnam General Hospital is to help you work toward reaching goals set by you and our interdisciplinary team. A team consisting of your physician, specially trained nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, dieticians, case managers, and activity personnel will work together with you and your family to see that you reach the goals established for you.

Physical Therapy

Our trained physical therapy staff offer therapy services for pediatric patients through adults in an outpatient, inpatient, and swing-bed setting. Our physical therapist and physical therapy assistants treat the effects of disease, injury, and disability by using different exercises, manual therapy, education, and therapeutic activities in order to rehabilitate our patients. Our team members develop a customized plan of care for each patient in order to help them improve their ability to move, perform activities of daily life, and regain their independence.

Our physical therapists work together to provide quality care to patients who have experienced a variety of different illnesses or injuries. The services offered at Putnam General Hospital Therapy Services are used to treat individuals with conditions that include, but is not limited to, the following:

Sport injuries

Neck/back injuries

Balance concerns

Joint pain/replacements/limited range of motion

Muscle weakness

Stroke of head injuries

Amputations

Our occupational therapist helps people who have difficulties carrying out day-to-day activities because of a disability, illness, trauma, aging and a wide range of long-term conditions. Our occupational therapy department serves our swing bed, inpatient and outpatient services specializing in activities of daily living (ADL) and cognition. For example, OT assists with dressing, bathing, feeding, and safety awareness. We proudly serve pediatrics to geriatrics at Putnam General Hospital.



Therapy treatment and activities include various forms of therapeutic exercises to enhance function and strengthen muscles. The following can be provided at Putnam General Hospital Therapy Services:

Self-care skills (dressing, bathing, hygiene)

Arm/hand rehabilitation

Speech Language Pathology

We offer skilled speech therapy services for pediatrics through adults in an outpatient, inpatient, and swing-bed basis, with experienced speech therapists available on staff to help patients with a variety of therapeutic solutions. Our speech therapists specialize in offering therapy to help patients re-learn how to talk, read, write, and understand language, as well as helping patients find alternate ways to communicate and develop safe swallowing skills. Our speech therapy services include: helping patients to rebuild thinking, memory and problem-solving skills, allowing patients to return home quickly and prevent future problems.

Our speech therapists are specially trained to work with all speech and language disorders, including fluency, resonance or voice disorders, oral-feeding disorders, receptive language disorders and expressive language disorders.
