EATONTON, GA - February 10, 2015 - For the 3rd consecutive year, Putnam General Hospital, Navicent Health Partner was named Coverdell Champion Hospital of the Year for stroke prevention and care. The hospital was selected from over 60 participating hospitals statewide and was awarded Coverdell Champion Hospital of the year in the 25 beds or less category.

The Georgia Coverdell Acute Stroke Registry was named in honor of the late Senator Paul Coverdell of Georgia, who died of a massive stroke in 2000 while in office. The primary goal of the registry is to improve the care of acute stroke patients in the hospital setting, while reducing the deaths and disability due to stroke for all citizens in Georgia. This program addresses quality improvement in multiple areas of stroke care, from screening, diagnostics and intervention of patients experiencing a stroke as well as secondary prevention measures such as blood pressure control, reduction of cholesterol and smoking cessation to reduce the risk of reoccurrence.
