PGH Foundation Donates Sterilizer for Operating Room
The Putnam General Hospital Foundation has worked very hard this year to raise funds to benefit Putnam General Hospital through various events and fund drives. Thanks to their dedication and hard work, the Foundation presented a check to Putnam General Hospital for $53,684.00 to purchase a new steam sterilizer for the Operating Room.
The Foundation chose this fundraising project in 2006. At the request of the Putnam County Hospital Authority, they sought to fill the need for a new sterilizer to replace an old and aging one. A steam sterilizer is utilized to sterilize surgical instruments and materials before they are used in the Operating Room.
A sterilizer greatly reduces the likelihood of infections and the spread of germs, helping a patient recover more quickly. The new sterilizer offers adjustable racks to accommodate instruments in a variety of shapes and sizes, will provide 22 different cleaning cycles to best accommodate the materials being cleaned, and will supply a thermal paper recording system that tracks various points in the cleaning cycle for quality assurance.
Putnam General Hospital Foundation is a not-for-profit fundraising group that was started in 1999 to help purchase needed equipment for Putnam General Hospital. The Foundation is led by President Kaye Copelan. Each year the Foundation hosts an annual golf tournament and works on several fund drives throughout the community. They credit their success to the generosity of area residents and the worthy mission of helping our local hospital.
